Unimog

A legend on the pixel track.

Gran Turismo is considered the most famous racing simulation in the world. Since 1997 the game has stood for precision, realism and passion in motorsport. Not known as a supercar, yet an absolute legend for 70 years: the Unimog U 411. With the Gran Turismo 7 update, the historic all-rounder now also takes to international racetracks and shows how it handles unfamiliar terrain.

Evolution of a classic

Germany, 1949, the Unimog in pole position: first it conquered the fields, then the roads and finally the hearts of all those for whom true performance means pushing to the limits. Its sturdy frame, all-wheel drive and robust technology established it as an indispensable work tool – and made the Unimog the coveted all-purpose vehicle for farmers, municipalities and disaster services.

In 1953 Mercedes-Benz launched the U 401 series; shortly afterwards the U 402 series followed. Both laid the foundation for this success story. Three years later the Unimog U 411 followed — a further development with a powerful engine and a reinforced chassis.

Cult on the digital fast track.

The Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 411 from 1962 is considered the last Unimog of the "classic era". Fans love its clean lines, robust engineering and endurance. It towed trailers, lifted loads, drove off-road – and now rolls across the digital tracks of Gran Turismo 7.

The racing simulation shines with accurate driving physics, sharp images and richly detailed tracks. High speed was never the Unimog’s focus, but on the virtual racetracks it impresses not only with its iconic design – its sure traction and impressive agility also vividly demonstrate why it is so highly regarded worldwide: robustness and reliability on every surface.

Experience the Unimog virtually.

A Unimog drives differently. Whoever drives it feels power, technology and history. For a long time this feeling was reserved for only a few. But Gran Turismo brings the Unimog U 411 to the screens of virtual racers and thus brings the legend to life.

With the Unimog's entry into the digital world of Gran Turismo, game and vehicle build a bridge between past and future, between craftsmanship and electronic fascination. This fusion runs smoothly – the all-rounder certainly doesn't falter when it leaves the racetrack.

Engineering craftsmanship and pioneering spirit

For 75 years now the Unimog has stood like no other vehicle for efficiency, flexibility and legendary off-road capabilities. The foundation for this success story was laid by the engineers Albert Friedrich, Heinrich Rößler and Hans Zabel.

The Ennskraftwerke in Austria rely on the Unimog U 323. At the Thurnsdorf power plant the dam wall is only two and a half metres wide. A conventional crane doesn't get you very far there. Therefore the decision for a new model from Wörth was easy: the Unimog handles the local conditions well.
