Municipal services and Waste disposal
Goodbye winter and Unimog.
For the Bad Kissingen district it was a really big deal last year when it was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. So it's only natural that the people of Lower Franconia always keep their district looking smart. The roads in the district around Bad Kissingen are reliably kept in good condition by the crew of the road maintenance depot. Their boss since 1993 is Walter Heller; the depot employs a total of 22 men.
The road maintenance depot in Bad Kissingen is pleased about the "replacement procurement".
Reliable helpers in road service.
For many years now the crews have been supported in their daily tasks by two Unimog. After all, 240 kilometers of roads in the district must be cared for and maintained. In addition to winter service, mowing the roadside verges is especially part of the work between May and October. Until recently two Unimog U 400 were still in service with the road maintenance crews; now there are two brand-new Unimog U 530 in deep orange.
“No other vehicle is as manoeuvrable and flexibly reconfigurable as the Unimog.”
Replacement of the old models.
"The Unimog U 400 had around 10,000 operating hours on the clock," says fleet manager Fredy Gerlach, "so we've now replaced it." "Replacement procurement" is what that's called in official jargon. The road maintenance crews who set out every day from the Oerlenbach road maintenance depot are enthusiastic about their new Unimog, which performs superbly with a Trio mower (Mulag).
The new Unimog U 530 is distinguished by its hydrostatic drive, truck tyres, a municipal front mounting plate, front and rear cameras and the indispensable snow chains for use on ice and snow. "There was no alternative for our needs," says Fredy Gerlach. "No other vehicle is as agile and as flexible to outfit and retrofit as the Unimog. Other vehicles in this class cannot accommodate a four-cubic-metre spreader. And its manoeuvrability is unbeatable in every other respect, too."
Ready for every season.
And although the leaves on the trees are already turning golden in October, the road maintenance crew tirelessly mows around the district of Bad Kissingen. Depending on the job, a high-pressure cleaner (Leistikow) or a sweeper brush from Dücker is fitted. A guidepost double-washing device from Mulag is also regularly mounted on one of the Mulag-Mähausleger.
The crew from Oerlenbach is already looking forward to spring 2024. Not only because the hard winter service with shift work will then be over, but above all because it will once again mean: full commitment to the modern "replacement procurement"!
