"We really like driving the Unimog!"

"It turned out that the Unimog is the ideal logistics vehicle for us," enthuses Carsten Stegelmann. "Fuel consumption is sensational compared with the agricultural tractor." Tyre wear is similarly positive: "With a conventional agricultural tractor we pay four times as much for a set of tyres," he says.

The university-trained farmer and master of agriculture knows what he is talking about. In addition to combine harvesters and numerous field tractors, his fleet also includes two older-model Unimogs: a Unimog U 1500 and a Unimog U 2100 have for many years been valued harvest helpers on the 1,500 ha of land he farms.

The new Unimog U 535 is mainly used in logistics. "We drive the harvested crops from the field directly to the customer or to the storage area. With the agricultural tyres and the tyre pressure control system we get along great in any terrain and in any weather. It's great that there is now also a Unimog in the 350-hp class. After all, we're talking about a total 40 t combination that needs to be moved safely."

A lot of corn has to be fed into the two biogas plants, and the Unimog reliably hauls grain, rapeseed and beet in the region around Greifswald – painted in nostalgic MB-trac green. After all: such a tractor is also part of the fleet. "The vehicles do look pretty smart together on the yard."

In winter, Agrarservice Vorpommern supports the municipality with winter service. A municipal mounting plate is fitted at the front for the snowplough. But the Unimog is also used for path maintenance as well as green-space and hedge cutting in its home region in the northeast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Three drivers share the Unimog U 535. And they don't just like their workplace – they love it.
