    Roadside helper with a star

With more than two million inhabitants and around 50 million tourists a year, inner-city traffic in Paris rarely rests. It inevitably comes to a standstill whenever broken-down vehicles block the way. The narrow inner-city streets and alleys then quickly become congested. For breakdown assistance in the French capital that means: be quick! And flexible. Because in the often overcrowded and winding streets of Paris there is no room for lengthy manoeuvring. What is needed there is a truck with compact dimensions and enough power to tow the broken-down vehicles. In other words: the Econic.

Econic tows stranded cars out of narrow Parisian streets.

Quickly on site in the event of a breakdown.

Jige International, a renowned manufacturer of road recovery equipment, has outfitted an Econic 1830 4x2 as a tow truck for the breakdown crews of a Parisian company. Thanks to its 5.10 m wheelbase and PowerShift transmission, the nimble Econic can easily reach breakdown sites even through narrow and crowded streets. The 6-cylinder inline engine OM 936, with a displacement of 7.7 litres and 219 kW (299 hp), ensures that the truck can reliably transport heavy loads. The Econic tow truck can carry up to three cars on its double-deck tilt platform in a single trip.

A Mercedes-Benz Econic truck with a lifting system is parked in an urban environment. The truck is white with blue accents.
The towing truck is based on an Econic 1830 4x2 with a six-cylinder inline engine OM 936 (219 kW/299 hp), a 5.10 m wheelbase and PowerShift transmission.

    Breakdown assistance is teamwork.

In the spacious driver’s cab of the Econic there is plenty of room; up to four people can ride along. For the breakdown service this has two advantages. On a roadside assistance call, where a stranded vehicle is repaired on site, all the necessary technical personnel can be brought to the scene.

If the Econic is called out on a towing operation, it not only carries the defective car but also the driver and any passengers to the nearest workshop — a great service for stranded motorists.

Brings passengers and cargo safely to their destination.

Even getting into the Econic is made as easy as possible for stranded motorists with no truck experience. Thanks to the low-entry concept, passengers only have to climb a single step – a clear advantage over the awkward entry into conventional trucks, which carries a significantly higher risk of accidents.

The generous glazing of the DirectVision cab and the many safety assistance systems also create ideal conditions for a safe trip to the nearest workshop. The Econic driver has a wide field of view of the traffic and is supported by reliable assistance systems wherever direct visibility is not possible. A 360° camera system, lane-keeping assistants, Active Brake Assist and other systems protect the passengers in the Econic and all other road users.
