    Lakes, volcanoes and giant trees.

STANDARD: 4-XTREMES – THE WORLD TOUR

    Lakes, volcanoes and giant trees.

With the Axor, Andrea and Mike overcome even the most difficult roads – and are rewarded with a breathtaking view.

Hey RoadStars, we’ve just been on yet another adventure, and of course, we're going to tell you all about it! Our next destination in Chile is Conguillío National Park. Conguillío means "water with pine nuts" in the indigenous Mapuche language. First, the journey takes us through a breathtaking volcanic landscape.

We continue on a single-lane dirt road that winds through a dense and rather narrow section of forest. Because of this, it takes us 1.5 hours to travel just 17 kilometres from the park entrance to Laguna Conguillío, our home for the night.

    A real tree giant.

But the hairy journey is worth it. We stay for a few days and explore the park on foot to get a view of the lake and the spectacular Llaima volcano. We even kayak to a hidden waterfall on the other side of the lake.

Another giant eye-catcher is the 1,800-year-old, 50-metre-high monkey puzzle tree with a trunk diameter of 2.20 metres – imagine that! Fossil finds of related species date back up to 90 million years, making monkey puzzles one of the oldest tree families in the world.

    The journey continues.

After a few days in the park, we set off again. Our next destination: Argentina! The road continues along Ruta 23 by Aluminé Lake and then the Aluminé River. As it’s time to replenish our stocks again, we head to San Martín de los Andes before we continue our journey to the next national park. This includes parts of the Patagonian steppe and caves that were previously inhabited by indigenous groups.

It's a good job that our Axor weighs only 13 tonnes, as the bridges on the minor roads in the park have a weight limit of 15 tonnes. What luck!

We enjoy the fantastic landscape and continue into the sunset. What's our next destination? Add your guesses in the comments!

    4-Xtremes – The World Tour.

Andrea and Mike Kammermann have been on the road in the Expedition Axor since June 2020. The Swiss couple have visited much of Europe, from the northernmost point of Norway to the Canary Islands, and also made a detour to Tunisia. Distance covered on the road on the journey: 83,000 kilometres! Travelling to other destinations was not possible, mainly due to pandemic-related restrictions. Until now! Andrea and Mike are now discovering South America. Find out what happens next! This current tour is the second one that the Swiss couple have undertaken in their Axor. They travelled through more than 20 countries in 2018 and 2019, covering a good 47,000 kilometres.
