Through snow and ice with the Axor

Hey Roadstars, after our time in Tierra del Fuego and the deep south of Argentina, we are heading north and, of course, taking you with us. Our route ran us over bumpy "Ripio" roads, where we even saw the occasional rhea and guanaco. On a sunny day, Mike took the opportunity to thoroughly check our Axor. He topped up engine oil and made sure everything was running smoothly so we could continue without having to worry. 

Our next destination was the picturesque village of El Chaltén, surrounded by impressive mountain peaks. But due to the strong wind, we only went for short hikes and then continued heading north. Before we continued to a remote region, we found a cosy spot in the next village to do some laundry and stock up on supplies. 

Our flexible lifestyle on wheels allows us to spontaneously adapt our plans to any situation. Our stay at Lago Posadas was the perfect example of this. We had planned to camp by the lake, but due to the cold and strong wind, we changed our plans again. At a sheltered spot, we were still able to enjoy the sunset before continuing our drive through the mountains the next day despite the snow that had fallen overnight. As the roads became increasingly icy, Mike put on the snow chains. However, once we got caught up in a whiteout and visibility was almost zero, we decided to turn around and marvel at the snow-covered mountains from a distance.

A few days later, we headed towards the Chilean border and encountered an unexpected traffic jam caused by hundreds of sheep. Our goal was to visit our friend Mario in Coyhaique before continuing our journey further north.

Since June 2020, Andrea and Mike Kammermann have been on the road in their expedition Axor. From the northernmost point of Norway to the Canary Islands, the Swiss couple has visited large parts of Europe and even made a detour to Tunisia. Distance covered on the road: 83,000 kilometres! Especially due to pandemic-related restrictions, further destinations were unreachable — until now: From now on, Andrea and Mike are discovering South America. Stay tuned to see what happens next! The current tour is the second one that the Swiss couple has embarked on in their Axor. In 2018 and 2019, they travelled to more than 20 countries and covered a good 47,000 kilometres.
