In the land of contrasts

In the land of contrasts

Andrea and Mike explore Brazil in their Axor, a country full of contrasts and superlatives.

Hey Roadstars, this time we’re based in Brazil, the land of superlatives – including the distances we are forced to cover! We are only allowed to stay in the country for 90 days before we have to leave for another 90 days. Which means that we have a lot of kilometres ahead of us in a very short time.

From fishing village to big city

Our journey begins on the south coast, where picturesque fishing villages nestle between long beaches. We enjoy a few relaxing days by the sea and are fortunate to experience traditional Tainha fishing: an autumn/winter attraction that has the whole coast in action.

From there, we head into the interior of the country to Curitiba, the capital of the state of Paraná. The city is considered a pioneer of modern urban planning and impresses with highlights such as the Botanical Garden and the Oscar Niemeyer Museum.

A taste of sauerkraut and bratwurst

After the big city, we make a stop in the charming colonial-style village of Morretes before continuing into the so-called European Valley. There, we find towns with a strong German influence – timber-framed houses, beer festivals and delicious cuisine. It’s a strange but exciting feeling to be served sauerkraut and bratwurst in the heart of Brazil.

Over bridges and sand tracks

In the end we are drawn back to the coast. A ferry takes us to an idyllic village on a small island. And we head straight to the beach – perfect for our little Axor, which is in its element here. There is no real connecting road, because all the traffic runs along the beach. We find a dreamy parking spot there and end the day with an unforgettable sunset.

Next we continue to the village at the other end of the island, which is linked to the mainland by a bridge. What awaits on the mainland? Guess our next stop in the comments!
