    Trip into nature's paradise

Series: 4-Xtremes – The World Tour

    Trip into nature's paradise

Mike and Andrea explore the geographic center of Brazil with their Axor before cooling off in the natural paradise.

    Hey RoadStars!

On a picturesque dirt road that winds through small villages and wide-open landscapes, we continue our journey. Eventually we reach a major traffic artery that leads to our next destination: Palmas, the capital of the Brazilian state of Tocantins and the geographic centre of Brazil.

City in the heart of Brazil

Palmas was only founded in 1989 and is therefore the youngest planned capital city in the country. The modern city, with its wide streets, spacious residential neighbourhoods and around 330,000 inhabitants, looks like a city from the drawing board. We spend a few days here and of course visit the monument that marks the geographical centre of Brazil. Unfortunately, access is only possible on foot, so no photo with our Axor could be taken. Nevertheless, it is an exciting destination.

    Gateway to nature's paradise

Palmas is also considered an important gateway to Jalapão, one of Brazil’s most pristine and fascinating natural regions. The Parque Estadual do Jalapão covers around 34,000 square kilometres – almost as large as North Rhine-Westphalia – and enchants with endless savannas, impressive canyons, golden sand dunes and crystal-clear springs and rivers.

Because of its remote location, an off-road-capable 4x4 vehicle had long been essential for getting there. However, infrastructure work is now underway in many places: roads are being widened and partially paved, making the region more easily accessible.

    Paradise with challenges

Arriving at the park, we spend several days in the midst of this unique nature. The daily refreshes in the crystal-clear springs and wild rivers are a real treat in the tropical temperatures – up to 35 degrees and 70 % humidity daily. Paradise is not without its challenges, however: a good supply of insect repellent and reliable sun protection are essential in the travel kit.
