Daimler Truck presents a luxury Unimog for the 80th anniversary.

For many fans, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog is the undisputed leader in power and technology. But for the Unimog's 80th anniversary in 2026, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has taken it up a notch: this unique version of the legendary universal power tool is not only the most luxurious but also the most powerful of all time.

In doing so, Daimler Truck is setting new standards in the Unimog segment and fulfilling a long-held wish of many international customers: to complement the Unimog's off‑road capabilities — which have been almost unmatched for decades — with even more power and an unmistakable design.

The show car is based on the highly off-road-capable Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4023. As such, it comes from the factory with the characteristic Unimog features such as portal axles and an extremely torsionally flexible frame. Added to this are the engageable all-wheel drive and longitudinal and differential locks on both axles, which ensure traction and control even in heavy terrain.

When it comes to the powertrain, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has taken a major step forward: on the ultimate Unimog, the standard four-cylinder engine has given way to a Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder OM 936, which delivers an impressive 220 kW (300 hp) to the road. The exterior is SUV-inspired and stands out with its matte gray paint, aluminum beadlock wheels and a striking lighting concept that showcases the prototype with modern LED headlights.

For the first time in a Unimog, the MirrorCam system from Mercedes-Benz Trucks has been fitted: digital cameras and monitors replace the conventional exterior mirrors and can help improve all-round visibility and increase safety on the road.

Not only does this vehicle look like it belongs in a film on the outside: the design of the double cab is also inspired by the highest standards. The spacious cab offers room for up to four people. High-quality leather surfaces define its interior. Ergonomic seats with colored topstitching emphasize its premium character. Matching leather floor mats and LED lighting complete the package.

Franziska Cusumano, predecessor of Dennis Kinzelmann as CEO of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, had the following words for the vehicle: "This Unimog is a statement of innovation and passion." And indeed the show car is far more than just an eye-catcher.

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks also wants to gather findings for a possible new development stage with the luxury Unimog. The vehicle will be subjected to the rigors of everyday operation in the coming months as part of a customer trial.
