Off-road trips

When the journey is the destination.

Going beyond borders. Offering experiences and adventures that exceed expectations. Nothing more and certainly nothing less – that's what Go Orange has declared with the motto "Go beyond". And indeed: the New Zealand company offers its adventure-hungry customers from around the world plenty of thrills. Playing a major role in this are eight imposing Unimog. They have since become something of a calling card for Go Orange.

Eight Unimog transport New Zealand tourists to their next adventure.

Unimog turns transport into an adventure.

Anyone who travels to the small mountain town of Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island usually has one thing in mind: action! Rafting and kayaking are particularly popular with visitors, as the impressive fjord landscape around Lake Wakatipu offers the best conditions for both.

The guides and drivers of Go Orange know where the best spots are and where the landscape is most attractive. They accompany participants along the roads and waterways around Queenstown. What surprises many tourists is that even the journey to the actual destination is an adventure, because very few of the international visitors have ever sat in a Unimog.

A Mercedes-Benz truck is driving on a winding gravel road in a mountainous landscape with dry vegetation and rocky cliffs in the background. Impressive sights for travel and truck enthusiasts: the Unimog masters even the major challenges of New Zealand's landscape.

"With our Unimogs, we have created something that clearly stands out and offers our customers additional surprises."

Emma Hansen, Head of Marketing at Go Orange

In a town whose daily grind knows only buses, the Unimogs are a real eye-catcher. But they are much more than just visually appealing advertising spaces for the adventure pros at Go Orange. "The Unimogs are a great addition to the company," rejoices Emma Hansen, Head of Marketing at Go Orange. "With our Unimogs, we've created something which clearly stands out and offers our customers additional surprises along the way."

Comfortable, even when it gets uncomfortable.

Such surprises are guaranteed, for example, on the Skippers Canyon Road. It is one of New Zealand's most scenic — and one of the most dangerous — roads in the world. The gravel track, flanked on both sides by steep cliffs, is narrow and vehicles are difficult to maneuver.

Yet the highly off-road-capable Unimog rise to this challenge — and overcome it time and time again. From inside the vehicle, passengers can enjoy the impressive view. To ensure comfort is not neglected, the trucks were equipped with TV screens and an intercom. Through them, the Go Orange team can contact the passengers at any time.

Flexible when transporting people and equipment.

The cab, which was built by Kiwi-Busses on New Zealand's North Island, is a bespoke unit. A flexible seating layout was particularly important for Go Orange, because the rafting and kayaking tours require a lot of equipment. That's why the seats were arranged so that everything needed for the various excursions can always be taken on board. It's practical and makes the staff's job easier.

Many tourists also appreciate another detail in the Unimog: USB ports throughout the interior. They prevent the tourist worst‑case: dead batteries in breathtaking scenery. With the eight Mercedes‑Benz all‑rounders, every detail really has been considered.
