Atego is available with 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, 8x2, and 8x4 traction options, combined with a wide range of wheelbase configurations. This enables adaptation to numerous body applications and operational profiles.

Atego features a redesigned cab aligned with the visual identity of Mercedes‑Benz heavy-duty models. On-road and urban versions follow the Actros design language, while off‑road versions reflect elements associated with Arocs.

Atego is equipped with manual and automated transmission options designed to support efficiency and performance.
The third-generation Mercedes‑Benz G140 and G211 PowerShift 3 automated transmissions provide faster gear shifting compared to previous generations, contributing to optimized driving dynamics and fuel efficiency. The system supports intelligent gear selection and reduces the likelihood of operational misuse.
The transmission selector for automated versions is ergonomically integrated into the steering column.
An automatic transmission option is available for selected applications, including waste collection and firefighting configurations.
Atego is powered by Mercedes‑Benz OM 924 (4‑cylinder) and OM 926 (6‑cylinder) engines. These engines are designed for durability and efficiency across a range of transport conditions.
Power outputs range from 185 hp / 700 Nm to 321 hp / 1,250 Nm, supporting various operational demands. The engines are engineered to balance performance and fuel efficiency while maintaining high reliability standards.
The Top Brake engine brake system is available to support enhanced operational safety.
Platform versions offer technical GVW ratings from 14.3 to 32.7 tonnes. Tractor-unit versions provide a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of up to 45.1 tonnes.
This range supports adaptation to diverse body types and transport applications across urban, highway, and off-road environments.
