1,000 reasons for electricity

In Denmark, more than 1,000 electric trucks are now registered. Daimler Truck is behind the two most commonly used models on Danish roads: the eEconic and the eActros.

eEconic and eActros: Denmark's most widely used electric trucks

The 1,000th electric truck is more than just a round number. It shows that the electrification of heavy-duty transport in Denmark has firmly taken hold. It is no longer an exception but part of everyday life on Danish roads.

Specifically, this means: the eEconic accounts for almost 20% of the total number of electric trucks in Denmark, with the eActros close behind at just under 19%.

Hessel Trucks imports both models into Denmark — and additionally the FUSO eCanter. Together the company accounts for more than 40% of all electric trucks on Danish roads. One reason is the Mercedes‑Benz e-axle — it helps to keep energy consumption low and provides high energy efficiency. The result: a long range and convincing overall cost-effectiveness.

From waste disposal vehicle to long-haul transport

In 2026 electric trucks already make up 7% of all newly registered trucks over 7,300 kg in Denmark. The electrification of municipal waste collection got things started. The eEconic in particular is now operating locally CO₂-free in numerous municipalities.

Electric trucks are also taking on tasks in regional distribution and international transport. Ranges of up to 600 km, as with the eActros 600, make this possible. Targeted funding programs also make it easier for trucking companies to switch.

No pilot project

Targeted funding programs additionally make it easier for freight forwarders to switch. For Mikael Voigt, eMobility & PR Manager at Hessel Trucks, this is a clear signal.

How it will proceed depends for him primarily on the demand from transport customers: if companies and public contracting authorities opt for low-emission transport solutions, more hauliers will invest in electrified vehicles.

Is it worth it: electric trucks in an economic comparison

Many freight forwarders are increasingly benefiting from improved cost-effectiveness. The prerequisites are optimal charging and at least 100,000 km of mileage per year. Under those conditions, an electric truck already achieves the same or lower total operating costs as a diesel truck.

The steadily rising fuel costs in recent years and the expectation of continued competitive electricity prices further improve profitability.

Quieter engine, better work environment

In addition to economic and climate-policy benefits, electric trucks also bring a better working environment. Their low-noise operation reduces noise pollution in cities and improves comfort for drivers. Local emissions are eliminated entirely.

Even across their entire life cycle, these vehicles produce significantly fewer CO₂ emissions than comparable diesel trucks. This applies from manufacturing to disposal.
