Soiled organic and residual waste bins can become a problem, especially in the summer months. They smell bad and are unhygienic. In Düsseldorf, the company MoWa (Mobile Washing Systems) uses an Econic to ensure the bins are returned to their place thoroughly cleaned. With the help of a special bin-washing system mounted on the Econic.

Frank and Alexander, two MoWa employees, are out and about in the Düsseldorf-Unterbach district. Dirty waste bins are not an option. With their Econic, they follow the refuse collection at intervals of about 15 minutes and tackle whatever has been left in the bins. With hot water and high pressure.

The Econic from MoWa is a welcome vehicle in the streets of Düsseldorf-Unterbach. If residents bring their emptied bins back in too early, they are kindly reminded by Alexander to roll them back out onto the street. Frank, the driver, likes to wait in the vehicle in the meantime – no wonder, given how comfortable the suspension seats of the Econic are.

"What stands out about the Econic is its low-entry design, which is ergonomically tailored to the employees," says Marc Przybylski, authorized signatory at the family-run company MoWa. At the end of the day they are not as tired as they are with other trucks.

The Econic relieves crew members of some of their work steps. After all, they take many steps every day. MoWa's employees work very similarly to refuse collectors: in day-to-day operations they have to get in and out very often, and over time this places strain on the joints. Thanks to the low-entry design with just two steps, the crews experience less strain.

To make things even better, the Econic's cab offers a comfortable standing height of up to 1,920 mm and a step-through height of up to 1,745 mm in the high cab version. This also allows the driver to exit on the side away from the road simply by walking through the cab.

On MoWa's company premises in Overath near Cologne, Marc Przybylski presents a vehicle from his fleet: a white Econic 1835. Like the other models, it has plenty of space for bodies of all kinds. For example, for two tanks holding 6,000 l of fresh water and a wastewater tank. This allows Econic vehicles to wash up to 600 waste bins per day without any need to change the water. "We sell cleanliness," says Marc Przybylski proudly — the company's unofficial claim.

This cleanliness can be expressed in figures: the bin washing system operates at 50 l per minute, at a pressure of 150 bar and with hot water of up to 70 °C. This allows even heavy soiling on and inside the bins to be removed. In total, around 25 Econic with bin washing systems are in operation at MoWa, alongside other vehicles. The company also sells its superstructures in Austria, Switzerland and the Benelux countries.

The Econic celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023 – and the company MoWa has been loyal to the special truck for just as long. "We bought one of the first Econic 25 years ago to set up a wash facility." It was even precisely the fifth Econic ever to roll off the production line.

The old Econic is now retired. When it comes to cleanliness, however, its successors at MoWa remain right at the forefront.
