Every major event brings challenges in waste logistics. Thousands of visitors leave traces – from food packaging to drinking cups. To address this, the official waste disposal partner Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG, together with the Austrian Ski Association ÖSV, relies on a well-thought-out "circular World Championships concept": it includes not only recycling but also measures for waste prevention and emissions reduction.

The two red Mercedes-Benz eActros 300s with bodies from Stummer form a central part of this plan. They collect the waste fully electrically and locally emissions-free – and efficiently through the use of smart waste containers with fill level indicators that enable optimised route planning.

At an event of this magnitude every minute counts. All vehicles must have left the fan mile two hours before the race begins. During this time window the eActros are on the move – following a clear route plan: they empty the rubbish bins in the World Championship car parks and at the bus stops, and as soon as the races start and the crowds thin out, they take care of the recycling islands on the fan mile.

All this without disrupting event operations: the electric drive helps preserve the tranquil atmosphere of this winter idyll. While cheers roar through the streets, the eActros 300 does its job almost silently.

The electric truck is also full of energy: its three battery packs with an installed capacity of 336 kWh give it the range for a whole collection day on the fan mile. It also demonstrates another strength in stop-and-go traffic, because its regenerative braking recovers energy when braking and feeds it back into the batteries.

The FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm impressively demonstrate that sustainability and major events are not in conflict. The use of the eActros 300 proves that emission-free waste collection is already possible today. With tangible benefits for the environment, cities and people. With every clean race weekend the conviction grows that urban logistics is electric – and right at the heart of it, on the racing line, is the eActros.
