All's well in Wertheim.

Wertheim is simply beautiful. Anyone who thinks that foxes and hares here say "good night" to each other is mistaken! There is plenty on offer in Wertheim — not least the fact that the Tauber and the Main seem to "say hello" to each other here. Almost daily river cruise ships dock on the banks of the Main, bringing hordes of tourists to the picturesque little town with its historic old town and its red sandstone castle. Wertheim (23,000 inhabitants including all districts and associated villages) is also a popular destination for camping fans — visitors come from all over the world to the northernmost town in Baden-Württemberg, right on the border with Bavaria. However, this article is not tourism advertising for Wertheim, but everything revolves around the Unimog, so let's slowly get to the heart of the matter: the Unimog.

"Eighty percent of our transport work is done with the new Unimog. We use it for playground construction and maintenance as well as for winter service," explains Benjamin Nehls, commercial manager of the building yard. According to him, there are around 60 children's playgrounds in the city with its five districts and 15 surrounding villages. "There's always something to maintain."

Equipped in the typical municipal orange (RAL 2011) and LED signal lighting, the vehicle is fitted with the versatile municipal mounting plate. In winter an Aebi Schmidt snowplough blade is mounted here. At the rear, the Wertheimers have equipped their Unimog with a Bucher Yeti W27 wet salt spreader, which is distinguished by its low hopper design.

The route network in and around Wertheim is shared by the Unimog U 327 as well as a Unimog U 400 and a Unimog U 430. For the rest of the year, the Unimog is a reliable towing vehicle for a Möslein trailer that carries a mini-excavator piggyback. Not to forget the practical Jotha container exchange system: "We use different dump bodies, for example for transporting building materials, small equipment and machinery. In a large container we transport bulky goods, for example during municipal relocations," says workshop manager Ralph Hörner.

The containers are picked up effortlessly by the Unimog’s set-down skip loader body. "We particularly appreciate the Unimog’s off-road capability, compact design, versatile applications and powerful engine," underlines Ralph Hörner. According to him, the compact and above all narrow design of the vehicle is ideal for use in tight streets and narrow roads, such as in residential areas.

And because the best usually comes last, we now come to the highlight of the Unimog U 327: As one of the first Unimogs to be delivered, it was equipped with the UNI-TOUCH® system.

The new central control unit, for example, makes it very easy to control attachments with clever switching elements such as linear rocker switches, adjustment dials and memory buttons. It is adjustable longitudinally and laterally and can thus be adapted to a wide range of needs, such as switching the driver’s side in conjunction with VarioPilot® transferable steering. This means that there is only one conclusion for the long-standing building yard employees: everything even more beautiful in Wertheim!
