eMobility

Tailor-made turnkey charging solution.

Our integrated eActros solution enables us to offer you a tailor-made charging solution so you can start straight away, and to accompany you throughout the whole process. Within the framework of our eConsulting, together we answer all the questions which arise on your way to smooth, seamless integration of the eTrucks into your existing fleet. Thanks to our qualified partners, that also includes setting up the necessary charging infrastructure. Our Charge Management System sets up the perfect link between charging infrastructure and eTruck and enables optimum charging of the vehicles for you. Should any problems arise in the course of the process, whether with the vehicle or the software, you always have someone reliable to turn to!

Together with our partners and with the help of the necessary tools, we will support you with everything from the connection to the electrical grid to charging planning and management. Which charging infrastructure plus software and hardware solutions you need, and which is the optimum charging behaviour for you, all depends on the operating areas of your vehicles.

Some examples: Do you drive on one day shift only and can you use the night time to charge vehicles fully? Then a low charging output, for example 50 kW, is sufficient. Do vehicles need a top-up charge in the lunch break? Then charging needs to be with a higher charge output, for example 150 kW. Contacting your local electricity provider is also important: How efficient is the electricity supply, and does the infrastructure have to be extended on your premises? Here too we will be there to help you, together with our partners.

Depot charging – charging at the operator’s own depot – is best suited to heavy-duty distribution haulage in urban areas. In the case of single-shift operation, vehicles are put to optimum use during a shift and then fully recharged slowly overnight at the depot when the truck is no longer in operation.

If your eTruck is operated during more than one shift, you need to use other forms of charging. Opportunity charging is always possible when the vehicle is parked temporarily. The batteries can be partially charged in this limited period, for example when the freight is being unloaded at the destination. Charging takes between 30 and 90 minutes.

  • The charging time shown in the tool is based on a linear calculation as well as on internally determined values based on experience under optimum conditions, including an ambient temperature above 20 °C. Charging time refers to the value shown in the vehicle display.
  • §§3009 The eActros can be charged with up to 160 kW: Based on figures determined in accordance with company-internal experience, under optimal conditions – including when connected to a regular 400A DC charging station at an ambient temperature of 20 °C – the three battery packs need a little longer than 1 hour to charge from 20 to 80%.

Based on your individual charging concept, in other words the number of charging stations, the type of trips you take, the possible loading and unloading times and the charging output required, you can test if your present network connection capacity is sufficient. Your network connection must correspond to your maximum output requirement which could for example comprise lighting, IT hardware, air conditioning and production equipment. Because this existing output requirement will be increased by the energy requirement of the eTruck charging stations, the local network provider must check whether your connection to the network can cover this additional output requirement. If this is not the case, it may be necessary to make building alterations. For this, Mercedes‑Benz Trucks and our partners and also your local network provider will be happy to assist you.

So that you never lose control, Fleetboard Charge Management offers you an all-round view of all interactions between your eTrucks and the company's own charging stations. From the battery status to the charging status to the remaining charging time or the charging history: that way you can benefit from full transparency of the charging network.

This means you can understand the charging behaviour of your eActros better and more easily identify potential for further improvement. Charge Management helps you to coordinate your charging sessions while looking ahead, and make the best possible use of the available connecting output of your depot.

This also enables you to incorporate charging routines and/or behaviour smoothly into existing processes. You can also make individual settings such as departure times and the relevant desired battery status at any time.

In order to support our customers not just with vehicle drafts, but also with the best possible charging structure for their electromobility and to support them in all aspects of planning, application and implementation, we have entered into a strategic partnership with Siemens Smart Infrastructure, ENGIE and the EVBox Group.

After a number of compatibility tests with the Mercedes‑Benz Trucks charging management system, these partners now support us with their complementary specific know-how on energy supply and they supply charging infrastructure solutions for central charging at the depot. In the eConsulting process, a realistic usage profile for our customers' individual application purposes is identified, on the basis of which they can decide if and how they would like to make use of services.

The analysis of the depots, setting up the suitable infrastructure and also intelligent charging solutions, plus maintenance and the service of the entire charging infrastructure, can then be carried out by one of our partners. They stay in close contact with Mercedes-Benz Trucks during all the phases.

The electrification of a depot requires considerable preparation. The period of time from the first consultation to the delivery of an eTruck can vary and take up to twelve months, for example.

Depending on the circumstances and requirements, planning and setting up a charging infrastructure from scratch including extending the network connection can generally take between three and twenty-four months. So it is advisable to involve the local network supplier in the planning of the charging infrastructure at an early stage.
