Our diesel fuel savings are enormous.

The countryside has an agricultural character. Most farms in the region still pride themselves on crop and livestock farming. This also applies to the Theißing farm, run by Eva‑Maria Theißing and her husband Volker. The family’s history as farmers goes back to 1745. 600 fattening bulls are kept in the Theißings’ barn. They largely ensure the family’s own biogas plant (440 kW) gets plenty of “feed”.

150 hectares of forest and around 400 hectares of arable land also belong to the family business. And when the Theißings set off with their four employees to work the fields, a stylish Unimog U 430 in classic green has recently joined them: crop protection, substrates, potato, grain and maize logistics, windrowing, turning – the Unimog is used in a variety of ways.

“Our aim was for the Unimog to be compatible with all the equipment we use with our five tractors,” explains Volker Theißing. The agricultural engineer has caught the Unimog virus. And he caught it a long time ago: “An agricultural variant of the U 1600 was used at the company where I did my apprenticeship. From that point on I knew I'd have my own Unimog one day.”

In March it was finally time: the new arrival in the yard is equipped with almost everything the configuration list offers. A hydraulic power take-off, rear power lift and the ball-head coupling (K 80) are mandatory. A municipal mounting plate is also part of the package. It is designed for weights.

"We're saving up to 18 percent on diesel compared with the tractor," says Volker Theißing. By his account, the Unimog is the best decision in a long time. After all, it drives "like a car," he says. Whether for forestry, field or logistics use: at the Theißing farm they're all on tenterhooks in the morning — who will get to drive the Unimog this time.
