Vehicle for power vegetables.
If you take a closer look at the properties of the carrot, it becomes clear: it is extremely healthy. It aids digestion, helps with chronic fatigue, immune deficiency, stomach and intestinal problems – an absolute power vegetable. To ensure that we are all well supplied with it, the Großhans family from Reilingen near Heidelberg works day in, day out with their 60 permanent employees in their fields to produce carrots.

The Großhans family relies on the Unimog U 430 to grow vegetables.
During the harvest season, as many as 600 people are employed here, including seasonal workers. The farm, founded 25 years ago by Karsten Großhans, cultivates almost 800 hectares. Son Dennis (25), a trained horticultural scientist, has since joined the company. Together with his father and mother Petra, they manage their farm, which grows vegetables from June to March. Radishes, potatoes and onions are other field crops produced by the Großhans family. "If we harvest a carrot today, it will be in the supermarket within 24 hours. No matter where in Germany," explains Dennis Großhans.
Flexible, fast and agile.
His operation is one of the five largest carrot producers in the country. Harvesting, washing, sorting, packing, cooling, loading – on the farm, they are a well-rehearsed team. And to ensure that the supply from the field doesn't stall, a Unimog U 430 in fir green and fully equipped has recently been put into service. "We use the Unimog exclusively for field logistics. The advantage is its speed, its maneuverability and the flexibility you get with the Unimog," enthuses Dennis Großhans. The Unimog U 430 has to provide the power for the two 18-ton trailers from Reich, which are usually hitched one behind the other.

In any weather. On any terrain.
It's only natural that the vehicle is fitted with AS profile (agricultural tyres) and a tyre pressure control system so it can get off the field safely. “We work in the fields in all weathers. The Unimog is extremely valuable to our operation. With it we were able to replace two other vehicles that were nowhere near as fast. After all, we also drive it on the motorway.” The family cultivates fields within roughly a 50 km radius of the farm that produce delicious carrots almost all year round. The message is clear: eat more carrots!
