Climbing specialist as an energy supplier

    Energy

Climbing specialist as an energy supplier

Providing people in remote areas with reliable heat and electricity is an important task for energy providers. Some roads and tracks wind through the high Alps that will remain permanently inaccessible to large vehicles. Where heavy machinery fails on hairpin bends, the Unimog tackles climbs and descents with power and agility. By expanding its vehicle fleet with a powerful Unimog U 530, VITOGAZ Switzerland AG, the leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Switzerland, has found a proven solution for challenging delivery routes.

Challenging mountain tours are his everyday life.

The Unimog U 530 of liquefied gas supplier VITOGAZ also supplies hard-to-reach regions with heating fuel.

With its fleet of around 50 vehicles, VITOGAZ supplies more than 400 customers with liquefied petroleum gas every day. This includes households and businesses located on steep mountain roads or accessible only via winding routes. Here the specially equipped, highly versatile vehicle is put to work and outperforms anything you would expect from conventional gas tanker vehicles.

A Mercedes-Benz truck transports a large white tank for Vitogaz on a road, surrounded by vineyards and a stone wall.

    Safe technology in alpine operations.

The white powerhouse impressively demonstrates in daily use that it is a highly off‑road‑capable commercial vehicle with off‑road characteristics: With its long wheelbase and agility it is perfectly suited to the Swiss mountains and their tight hairpins – thanks to its steerable front and rear axles it has an unprecedented turning circle of only 7.5 m. Its special tyres and generous ground clearance also let it master rough terrain such as scree and snow with ease.

The gas supplier's mobility, however, does not come at the expense of performance, because the Unimog can also tow substantial loads. With 300 hp under the hood, the Unimog U 530 is the most powerful model of Mercedes‑Benz's implement carriers and demonstrates impressive hill‑climbing ability even when towing a heavy trailer.

Reaching great heights – and delivering reliably there.

The efficient all-rounder maneuvers its tanks not only into the most remote corners, but also demonstrates its special skills in the decisive final meters: with the fitted extra-long gas hose it even overcomes larger obstacles such as embankments, stairs and fences. The trained VITOGAZ drivers master and appreciate the tank technology of the white climbing artist just as much as its distinctive driving style. The Unimog U 530 delivers every day – even where others can't get to.
